What Is the Kiro Student Discount in 2026?

Kiro’s student program gives qualifying university students one full year of free access with 1,000 Kiro credits provisioned each month. Kiro says the student tier includes paid features such as premium models and Kiro Web, rather than simply giving students the normal 50-credit Free tier.

The offer originally launched in March 2026 with 11 universities. On September 8, 2026, Kiro announced a major expansion to 121 additional universities across 16 countries. That makes this one of the more substantial current AI coding offers for students.

Important: Kiro does not describe this as a coupon code. You need to qualify through the official student program and complete student verification.

Kiro Students vs Kiro Free vs Kiro Pro

PlanPriceCredits/monthPremium featuresBest for
Kiro Students$0 for eligible students1,000Includes paid features such as premium models and Kiro WebEligible university students
Kiro Free$050More limited model accessTrying Kiro occasionally
Kiro Pro$20/month1,000Premium models and add-on credit purchasesRegular individual development

The student tier’s 1,000-credit monthly allowance matches the current Kiro Pro credit allocation, while regular Kiro Pro costs $20 per month. That means the student program gives an allowance comparable to up to $240 of current Pro-tier credit allocation across 12 months. The student program is still a separate education tier, so I would not describe it as literally receiving a normal paid Pro subscription.

Who Is Eligible for Kiro Students?

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must be currently enrolled at a participating university.
  • Your Kiro account must use a valid university-affiliated email address.
  • You must be able to provide proof of current enrollment if requested.
  • Your university must currently be included in Kiro’s participating-school list.

Kiro’s current student page includes universities in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, Singapore, South Korea and several other countries. Examples include Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Tech, University College London, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, ETH Zurich, EPFL, Technical University of Munich, IE University, Universidad de los Andes, Yonsei University and many more.

Your school is the deciding factor. Kiro’s public list can change as the program expands. Use the official student page to confirm your university before relying on the offer.

How to Get Kiro Free as a Student

Create or sign in to Kiro.
Use Google, GitHub, or AWS Builder ID, but make sure the account is associated with your university email.
Open your Kiro account page.
If your university is eligible, you should see a “You are eligible for Kiro Students” banner.
Verify through SheerID.
Kiro says the verification flow asks for details such as your name, date of birth and university. In some cases, SheerID may request a student ID or enrollment letter.
Activate the student tier.
After successful verification, you receive 1,000 credits per month for one year.

How Kiro Student Verification Works

Kiro uses SheerID to confirm student status. According to Kiro’s current FAQ, students may be asked for their first name, last name, date of birth and university. SheerID checks the information against academic records, and some students may need to upload supporting documentation such as a student ID or enrollment letter.

Kiro also says student verification is intended as a one-time process for the offer, so make sure your account is connected to the correct university email and your information is accurate before submitting it.

What Do 1,000 Kiro Credits Actually Get You?

Kiro measures usage in credits rather than a fixed number of prompts. Simple requests can consume less than one credit, while larger coding tasks, spec execution and requests using more expensive models can consume more. Credit usage is metered fractionally, so how far 1,000 credits goes depends on the complexity of your work and which models you use.

Monthly student credits do not roll over. If you reach 1,000 credits before the monthly reset, Kiro’s student terms say you cannot purchase add-on credits during the benefit period, so you need to wait until the next monthly cycle.

What Happens After the Free Year?

After the 12-month student benefit ends, Kiro says your account is automatically downgraded to the regular Kiro Free tier. You are not automatically moved onto a paid plan, and because the student offer does not require a credit card, there should not be a surprise subscription charge from the student tier.

Your code, specs and projects remain in your local machine and repositories. If you want more usage after the student year, you can choose to upgrade to a normal paid Kiro plan.

Is Kiro Worth Claiming for Computer Science Students?

For an eligible computer science, software engineering or engineering student, this is a very strong offer because the normal free tier only includes 50 monthly credits while the student program gives 1,000. That is enough of a difference to use Kiro on real coursework, portfolio projects, hackathons and larger repositories instead of treating it as a small trial.

The biggest limitation is eligibility. Unlike a universal .edu-email discount, Kiro currently restricts the offer to participating universities. If your school is not listed, you can still use Kiro Free, but you cannot claim the 12-month student tier yet.

Another coding offer to compare is the Codex student offer, which gives eligible university students in the US and Canada $100 in Codex usage credits. Kiro and Codex use different credit systems; their credit counts should not be compared directly.

How We Verified the Kiro Student Offer

We checked Kiro’s live student page, its September 8, 2026 student-program announcement, the current Kiro for Students Terms and Conditions, and Kiro’s live pricing page. The official sources currently agree on the core offer: 1,000 credits each month for 12 months, participating universities only, age 18+, university-email eligibility, SheerID verification and no credit card requirement.

We also separate Kiro’s official student-program wording from our value comparison. Kiro Pro currently costs $20/month and also includes 1,000 monthly credits, but the Kiro Students tier is its own program and should not automatically be described as a standard Pro subscription.
