A few hours before submitting one of my university assignments, I thought I was done.
I had written everything. The structure was good. The arguments made sense. I read it once, maybe twice, and it looked fine.

Within seconds, it showed me things I completely missed.

First, test Free on something real. Paste a paragraph from an essay or seminar paper and accept only suggestions that preserve your technical meaning. If spelling and basic clarity corrections cover most of your needs, you can keep your budget for other study resources.
Then identify the tasks that still take time. If you regularly edit long reports, adjust tone, or rewrite awkward sentences, a paid plan may be useful. But do not judge it only by how many suggestions it produces; the meaningful question is whether the edits improve readability without changing the argument.

What Grammarly Cannot Check for an Assignment
Grammar software cannot establish whether a cited source is reliable, a theorem is correct, or your explanation answers the lecturer’s question. My seminar-paper example above is about polishing language, not outsourcing research. When a suggestion changes terminology, a quotation, or a technical claim, compare it with the original and verify the source before accepting it.
Bottom line: occasional writers should try Free first. Students writing and revising substantial English-language reports every week can consider Pro after checking which editing tasks it will actually simplify.
